Theater at Washington and Lee

One Acts 2005

Always fresh and sometimes outrageous, the One Acts present the student's view of theater today. One Acts 2005 will take place in the Johnson Theatre of the Lenfest Center beginning on March 25 at 8 p.m. The advanced-directing class, under the advisement of Professor Joseph Martinez, will present six one-act plays in two separate bills. Bill A runs March 25, 27 at 8 p.m. and March 29 at 9 p.m. Bill B runs March 26, 28, 30 at 8 p.m.

Bill A opens with Bunnies written by Michael O'Brien and directed by Lanier Brooks '06. Bunnies is a fictitious comedy about the life of Hugh Hefner before he became the playboy icon he is today.

American Tropical written by Richard Ford and directed by Lisa Baratta '06. Baratta remarks, "American Tropical is a drama that takes a peek into one woman's struggle against the mistakes of her past. In a fit of passion, Evelyn committed a murder and now lives as a hunted criminal."

The Intervention written by Anne Washburn and directed by Paige Smith '06 will conclude Bill A. Smith explains, "The Intervention explores the extremes of what can go wrong when a group of strong personalities try to plan an intervention for a friend."

Bill B features The Night No One Died written by Shawn Overton and directed by Ligia Abreu '06. Director Abreu comments, "The Night No One Died is a play about a detective, four suspects and... no murder. Watch what happens when a murder-mystery turns into a hilarious comedy about a detective who always solves his crime -- even when there isn't one."

The Bone Violin, written by Doug Wright and is directed by Sarah Orvin '05.

Porcelain and Pink concludes Bill B. "Highlighting the sibling squabbles of a sassy set of sisters, Porcelain and Pink, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, pits the younger, free-spirited Julie against the strikingly more conservative Lois in a short, slightly romantic, slightly scandalous piece of 1920s drama," reports director Guy.
